28/11/2006: NETC@RDS project Final Validation Phase Conference Concluded. Presentations available to download.

"A milestone towards the eEHIC". Under this ambitious but concrete statement, the final "validation phase" conference has successfully concluded the intermediate stage of the NETC@RDS project, launching the future "initial deployment phase".

Hosted at the European Economic and Social Committee premises on 30 October 2006, the conference pointed out major elements of success and results achieved. Principal stakeholders have contributed to identify the most relevant opportunities, benefits, criticisms and threats to be faced for properly initiate strategies and initiatives for the digitalisation of the European Health Insurance Card also ensuring complementarities with the Community regulatory framework, and the specific rules issued by the Administrative Commission of the European Communities on Social Security for Migrant Workers (CASSTM), which plays a crucial strategic coordination role amongst Member States in this area.

16/11/2006: NETC@RDS Videos available for download

Two new NETC@RDS videos have been made available for download:

- A video showing a report from the FIFA World Cup
- The EHIC toolkit video, previously available only in DVD format (you can now download a smaller -30MB- version)

10/10/2006: NETC@RDS project Final Validation Phase Conference

The Validation-Phase of the NETC@RDS project is now being brought to a successful conclusion. This phase represents our intermediate milestone towards the full deployment of a trans-European service aimed at facilitating patients mobility through the digitalisation of the European Health and Insurance Card (EHIC). The project Validation-Phase conference is aimed at presenting, to targeted communities of stakeholders, the relevant achievements attained by the project and the perspective for the future developments.

The Conference will be held on 30 October 2006 at the European Economic and Social Committee premises, Rue Belliard 99, Brussels.

10-13/10/2006: "Netcards for eEHIC" at "The World of Health IT" Conference and Exhibition - Geneva

Connecting leaders in technology and healthcare” is the headline of the networking conference gathering policy and decision makers, government representatives, industries, healthcare associations, professionals and researchers playing in the IT and e-Health domain. The Netcards for eEHIC project will be promoted through the experiences discussed by Regione Lombardia, ZZZS and ZI, being these partners invited to present main results achieved in the e-Health sector.

23-24/10/2006: IBM International Forum: "The Social Sector in the 21st Century: how to answer through innovation to the challenges which must increase an evolving society?"

The Netcards for eEHIC project has been invited to the International Forum on Social Security organised by IBM, which will take place in Rome on 23-24 October 2006. This year the IBM Forum is devoted to discuss the aspects related to the rapid transformation of society and the role of innovation of services for sustaining the economic growth and sustainability

25-27/10/2006: eChallenges 2006: "Netcards for eEHIC" demonstration stand - Barcelona

The Netcards for eEHIC project will be exhibited at the next edition of the eChallenges 2006 Conference and Exhibition, which will take place in Barcelona on 25-27 October 2006. A demonstration stand, fully equipped with workstations and project application, will present the on-line service enabling the technical solution for substituting the present eye-readable EHIC, for arrangements involving electronic documents and for the implementation of healthcare services across EU Member States borders.


5/9/2006:
Patient mobility: Commission to launch public consultation on EU framework for health services

The European Commission today decided to launch a public consultation on how to ensure legal certainty regarding cross-border health services under Community law, and to support cooperation between the health systems of the Member States.

19/07/2006: Declaration of Accession signed by Dutch partners

CZ and VECOZO ( representing The Netherlands) signed the Declaration of Accession to the NETC@RDS General Agreement on pilots for the easier access of EU citizens to healthcare systems in regions of the European Union. The General Agreement signed in the frame of the NETC@RDS project has the objective to implement procedure simplification for insured people receiving healthcare benefits in kind while being abroad for a temporary stay in any of the NETC@RDS pilot regions.

 

21/06/2006: NETC@RDS for eEHIC presentation at the European Parliament

On 21st June 2006 the NETC@RDS for eEHIC Consortium organised an International Conference in Brussels at the European Parliament with the aim of reporting on the project status and achievements and discussing future steps and challenges in view of the introduction of an electronic European Health Insurance Card.

The event, supported by Mr. Stéphane LE FOLL, Member of the European Parliament, gathered some project partners actually involved in the application testing phase and in charge of the roll-out of the service in their Countries.

The Conference was introduced by Mr. Raf Chanterie in charge of the Lisbon Strategy and Policies for the Information Society of the Cabinet of Commissioner Reding.  Mr. Frans De Bruïne, Mr. Achim Klabunde and Mr. Pascal Collotte of the DG Information Society together with Mrs. Els Vertongen of the DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities were attending the meeting. Members of the Social Affairs and Public Liberties Committees of the European Parliament participated as well to the Conference.


15/06/2006: NETC@RDS Video Report on Euronews

The European TV channel Euronews broadcasted a new edition of its science and research magazine FUTURIS, focussing on projects related to the football world championship. Netc@rds for eEHIC is one of the featured projects. The full video can be seen on the Euronews web site.


13/06/2006: NETC@RDS for eEHIC presentation at the CASSTM/Technical Commission

The NETC@RDS for eEHIC applications and services have been presented by Marjan Suselj, representing ZZZS – the Slovenian partner of the NETC@RDS project – during the last meeting of the Administrative Commission on Social Security for Migrant Workers (CASSTM) Technical Commission.


13/06/2006: Kick off of new pilot-sites in Germany

In the framework of the FIFA World Cup 2006, new pilot-sites have been launched in Germany with the aim of increasing the potential and visibility of the services provided by the project applications during the football world championships. An international press conference took place in Stuttgart at Marienhospital - one of the new pilot sites - for promoting the event. Representatives  of regional health institutions and of the European Commission attended the event.

During the event the “online entitlement check” between Germany and the Netherlands – recently associated to the project operations - has been successfully demonstrated.


12/06/2006:
French-Germany cooperation in the frame of the NETC@RDS for eEHIC project

An official delegation of the German Federal Ministry for Health led by Mrs. Casper-Merk visited the French project pilot site established at the European Hospital Georges Pompidou in Paris. This event, organised in the frame of the NETC@RDS for eEHIC promotional activities, should reinforce the cooperation between France and Germany in the domain of the health and insurance smart-cards.


01/06/2006: “NETC@RDS for eEHIC” national portals

The national portals of 11 Member States participating to the project operations have been now made operational.


08/05/2006: NETC@RDS for eEHIC at FIFA World Cup 2006

In view of the forthcoming FIFA World Championships the NETC@RDS for eEHIC project will promote a series of actions with the aim of increase the visibility of the operation activities and its impact on citizens mobility. These activities will be principally deployed in the German cities where the FIFA World Championships will take place.

Under the coordination of the ZI (Zentralinstitut für die Kassenärztliche Versorgung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) and AOK Baden-Württemberg (Local Health Insurance Company) all AOKs trough Germany joined  the project at the end of 2005. In the cities that will have FIFA football matches a NETC@RDS point will be implemented allowing EU citizens to benefit of the project application and services when receiving healthcare treatments at hospitals during their visit in Germany for the FIFA World Championships 2006.

In this light, the main event under preparation is the launch of a new pilot site in Stuttgart (Marienhospital, Böheimstraße) on the 13th of June. The preparation of the event is on-going. The participation of the NETC@RDS for eEHIC coordinator (SESAM-VITALE GIE) is expected as well as the participation of the Major of Stuttgart, a representative of the European Commission and a representative of the FIFA Committee. This new site will be added to the pilot site recently started on 11th of April in Heilbronn (SLK-Kliniken).

In addition to these events, the broadcasting television EURONEWS is planning to visit some of the implemented pilot sites in France, Germany and Slovenia in order to report the project achieved results. These television reports will take place during the FIFA World Championships 2006.


05/05/2006: The “NETC@RDS for eEHIC” project activities extended to The Netherlands

The geographic coverage of the project activities is going to be extended to a new Member State. Two Dutch partners, the Health Insurance Company CZ Actief in Gezondheid and VECOZO, the main portal for administrative internet communication in health care, will be in charge for the service implementation in The Netherlands. In the next months, supported by the NETC@RDS for eEHIC partners, the new partners will explore the possibility to launch a national pilot site in the frame of the activities to be promoted by the project during the next FIFA World Cup.

28/04/2006: New NETC@RDS pilot sites in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Finland

The coverage of the piloting phase activities of the NETC@RDS for eEHIC project is now involving 9 countries including France (Paris area), Germany (Baden-Württemberg), Greece (Athens and Thessalonica areas), Italy (Regione Lombardia and Regione Veneto), Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland and Hungary. 

Czech Republic

From November 2005 to March 2006 new 4 NETC@RDS pilot sites have been started in the Czech Republic. In the first phase (November – December 2005) server and workstations have been installed and tested; in the following phase (January-February 2006) the on-line communication server has been finally installed and made operational at CESNET in Prague and workstations implemented. All the implementation phases have been supervised by a steering committee involving the local NETC@RDS partners - MEDTEL, VZP - and the Ministry of Health. Pilot technical meetings have been carried out in each site and dedicated training sessions organised.

Two official opening of NETC@RDS pilots at Hospital TGM Hodonín and Hospital Znojmo took place respectively on 27.03.2006 and 29.03.2006 at the presence of the hospitals management, medicine staff, regional health authorities, Slovak regional health authorities, Slovak NETC@RDS partners, MEDTEL, VZP, regional press and regional TV.

The 4 pilots actually full running are:

    • General Faculty Hospital, Prague
    • Faculty Hospital Motol, Prague
    • Hospital TGM Hodonín
    • Hospital Znojmo

Slovakia

In December 2005 two new NETC@RDS pilots sites have been launched in Slovakia at the Regional General Hospital in Nové Zámky and at the Oncology Institute of St. Elizabeth in Bratislava. Hospitals involved in the piloting phase have been equipped with dedicated workstations and actually both the off-line and on-line applications are fully running. The activity dealing with the implementation of the pilot sites has entailed the organization of training sessions for hospitals’ managers and employees and technical meetings for testing and assessing the application in view of the final implementation. Two official openings have been organized in the mentioned hospitals. In the frame of the cooperation between Slovak and Czech Netc@rds partners, GHIC together with Slovak Regional Health Authorities, has been attending the official opening of the Czech site in Hodonin, Hospital Hodonin, March 27, 2006.

Finland

In Finland, the piloting phase has involved 5 clinics of the Turku University Hospital - TYKS – Turun Yliopistollinen Keskussairaala. The implementation was carried out through the support of STAKES and KELA partners, the latter being in charge for the back-office. Starting from September 2005 (workstation installation for local server and SW-tests; portal virtual server allocation and installation) the Finnish pilot sites have been fully made operational in March 2006 (HW server installation; EHIC back-office connection developing and tests; portal SW on-line implementation and tests; EHIC Back–office connection and SW- on-line system test). These activities have been done together with training and evaluation activities. Project pilots and technical meetings have been organised in order to coordinate all the implementation phases. Actually all planned workstations are fully installed and the on-line version operational.


24/01/2006: New NETC@RDS pilot sites in Regione Veneto and Slovenia.

The piloting phase of the NETC@RDS project is growing with the start of new sites in Regione Veneto (Italy) and Slovenia.

Regione Veneto

Under the coordination of the Local Healthcare Management Unit of Dolo-Mirano( Venice), the regional pilot sites have been implemented since September 2005.

Slovenia

The Slovene pilots have started in the Region of Pomurje – closely to the Hungarian border. This choice reflects the fact that this is the region with the largest number of foreign visitors treated. The piloting phase in Slovenia is involving 1 hospital, 4 health centres, 1 pharmacy and 9 private practitioners. All the service providers are equipped with the HW and SW for the application of the national health insurance card in their provision of services. The pilot project will require the enhancement of all the information system components, under both scenarios. The HC service providers are served by a total of three software houses, which have set up the card handling environment according to the uniform standard specifications issued by ZZZS, and under its steering and supervision
